We will start our route from Piazza Vittorio Emanuele and head to the picturesque port of Monopoli.
Here we will admire the paranze, typical wooden boats, which provide a unique and evocative backdrop to the landscape.

City walls and castle of Charles V

We will continue along the city walls, which offer splendid views of the sea and the city itself.
We will arrive at the Castle of Charles V, an imposing fortress that tells the military and defensive history of Monopoli.

Amalfitan Church

We will visit the Amalfitan Church, dating back to the first half of the 12th century.
This church is a valuable example of medieval religious architecture, with a fascinating history related to the Amalfitan community.

Cathedral of Our Lady of the Madia

The focal point of the visit will be the Cathedral dedicated to Our Lady of the Madia.
Inside, we will discover the Chapel of the Beams, which holds in a large wall closet the beams of the Madia, the raft on which the Marian icon arrived in 1117.
This miraculous story is central to the town’s devotion.

Purgatory Church

We will continue with a visit to the Church of Purgatory, famous for its macabre decorations and unique architecture, which offer food for thought on life and death.

Garibaldi Square

We will end the visit in Piazza Garibaldi, where we will admire Palazzo Cacace and the Clock Tower.
This is also the site of the Justice Column, which bears the city’s coat of arms, a symbol of Monopoli’s power and history.
