Beginning of the visit

My guided tours of Gallipoli will take you to discover a seaside resort on the Ionian Sea, known as the Pearl of the Ionian Sea for the beauty of its landscapes.

Greek Fountain and Castle

We will start our route from the Greek Fountain, a Renaissance-era monument that will be our meeting point.
From here, we will cross the 18th-century bridge that connects the historic center to the island, reaching the majestic Gallipoli Castle.

Old Town and Cathedral of St. Agatha

The narrow streets of the historic center will lead us to a visit to the Cathedral dedicated to St. Agatha.
This cathedral is a true picture gallery, full of paintings of immense value that tell the story and culture of the city.

Hypogeous Crushers and Lampante Oil Production

Gallipoli was for centuries an important center of lampante oil production, used for lighting in many European cities.
The city boasts the discovery of some 30 underground oil mills that testify to this flourishing activity.
We will visit one of these underground oil mills, located in Palazzo Granafei, to learn more about Gallipoli’s history related to oil and soap.
Through these evocative spaces, I will tell you how lampante oil drove Gallipoli’s trade and its economic importance.

Church of the Purity

We will conclude our visit at the Church of the Purità, which hides numerous jewels inside, including a majolica floor and paintings of rare value.
This sacred place is an extraordinary example of the art and devotion that characterize Gallipoli.
